Senator Ryan Honors Oswego Sub Shop with New York State Empire Award

OSWEGO, N.Y. – New York State Senator Christopher J. Ryan today presented the New York State Empire Award to the Oswego Sub Shop, recognizing the iconic local business for its outstanding contributions to the community and exemplary small business leadership.

The award presentation took place at Onondaga Community College, where the Oswego Sub Shop was also named Oswego County Small Business of the Year by the New York Small Business Development Center. The twin honors celebrate the Sub Shop's longstanding service, community engagement, and commitment to quality since it opened its doors in 1969.

“For more than five decades, the Oswego Sub Shop has been more than a place to grab a great meal—it’s been a pillar of the Oswego community,” said Sen. Ryan. “This family-owned business exemplifies the values that define the Empire Award: innovation, resilience, and deep local roots. I’m proud to recognize their hard work and legacy.”

Owned and operated by the Greene family, the Oswego Sub Shop has grown from a humble sandwich counter into a staple of the region, employing dozens of local residents and supporting countless community events and charitable efforts.

Bill Greene, Jr., owner of Oswego Sub Shop said, “We are humbled and honored to be considered for the award. We make every effort to give back to the community, to be as good to them as they have been to us.”

The New York State Empire Award is presented by State Senators to honor exceptional businesses that go above and beyond in strengthening the economy and improving the lives of New Yorkers.
