Senator May and Senator Harckham host hearing on harmful algal blooms

New York's freshwater resources are the envy of the world, but they are increasingly vulnerable to pollution and the effects of a warming climate. Every season, harmful algal blooms plague many New York lakes, posing a potentially hazardous situation for residents who rely on these lakes for drinking water or use them for recreation. The HABS Senate hearing in Albany was a significant step forward, providing us with invaluable testimony about the problem and potential solutions. Thank you to Senator Pete Harckham for leading the hearing, and to the many panelists who brought their expertise to help us protect New York State's precious freshwater resources.
